Le Canal des Deux Mers à Vélo day 1 - 74 km from Bordeaux to Langon
After enjoying a day exploring Bordeaux, this was a gentle start to the route. Crossing the river, the route doesn’t follow the river or canals. Instead, it follows the Piste Cyclable Roger Lapebie. This greenway was a railway track at some point in its past.
At the side of the trail, I stopped for some refreshment at the Bistrot de la Pimpine. It was still early, so I just had a drink and snack, although it looked like people were stopping there for lunch.
The final third of the today’s route turned away from the cycle trail towards Langon where I was staying the night. This was a bit of a shock to the system, after following a relatively flat railway track. It took me up and down as I crossed a couple of valleys and some steep inclines on the way across towards the Garonne river.
I found that my planned route didn’t take me all the way to my destination, so I created a new route for the final few kilometres.
