La Loire à Vélo day 7 - 43km from Blois to Amboise
Candé-sur-Beuvron is a small town about 10km from Blois. As you approach the town, there is a pretty alley under the trees and to the right is a boulangerie/patisserie. It seems to be a popular spot for cyclists looking to have a short break and a treat. I stopped to get a religieuse and sat outside to eat it and watch the world go by.
The next highlight of the day was passing through Chaumont-sur-Loire. The town is dominated by the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, perched on a hill overlooking the river.
I ended my day in Amboise, a medieval town with a castle overlooking the river. It’s very popular with tourists visiting the castle the tomb of Leaonardo da Vinci, and the home where he spent his final years. I was reasonably early, so I popped into a small wine tasting room the Côt’é Chenin. There are some tasty wines to try out and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful, guiding me to a couple of tasty local wines to drink outside on their terrace.
Heading across the river towards my hotel, there was an incredibly strong wind blowing and a number of kitesurfers taking advantage. It wasn’t something I expected to see on the river here. However, also, there was a little group of kayakers stuck below the bridge. It looks like there used to be a wooden bridge here and there are still posts from it. One of them had got caught against the posts and was struggling to turn his kayak to get free.
I was staying at the Logis Hôtel la Brèche for the night. This is a very pretty hotel with a garden where guests could relax outside. It looks like it has a very nice restaurant, but it was a Sunday, so the restaurant was closed. Therefore, I headed into Amboise old town for some food.
